  On a recent visit to Zurich, we met a very good friend at Bistro Riffraff the other night for dinner. We had a great meal and a great evening. We went to the Bistro Riffraff because the restaurant was an easy walk from the Technopark area where we were staying and we were told that they locally source as much as they can. We were so pleased with our meals. I had the Lamb Burger and super fine french fries, my spouse had the Asparagus Soup (White Asparagus and very mild flavor), and our friend had the Lamb Curry that I was lucky enough to help her with. Delicious... While my Lamb burger was great, I should have had the Lamb Curry, it was outstanding. What a great find for a couple of "seniors" visiting Zurich. Oh, and if you want to catch a film, the cinema is just downstairs.

  I absolutely loved the atmosphere, service and food at Riff Raff. Newish to Zurich, I was in the mood to try something local, but also miss the flavors of my island home. This was a perfect mix. We had a delightful ahi starter with a light wasabi mousse and sea salad. Coming from Hawaii, I did not expect to be impressed, but I was transported to the tropics with the first bite! The fish was fresh, remarkably high quality with no sinew, tendons, or “fish” taste. Also, I appreciate that the ahi (tuna) was only lightly seasoned allowing the fish to be the star - flanked by shoyu (soy sauce) and wasabi mousse. My partner tried the octopus which was savory and bright featuring citrus notes, sea salt and olive oil. Yum! For dinner I tried the “mungge” (Marmot). I was surprised to learn that Riff Raff is a “nose to tail” restaurant. I wish more places in the states would adopt this mentality. The meat was flavorful and the broth rich without overpowering the meat. I tasted a hint cacao - i think…. Dinner impossible would have fun with this dish. 😉 The homemade bread was a simple and perfect accompaniment. Moist, buttery (tho non dairy) with a hint of olive oil and a few sea salt flakes The only issue is- a I ate too much bread (my recommendation- don’t ask for seconds no matter how good!) and had no room for dessert. I enjoyed a ginger schnapps with a side of coffee. Side note: The staff, gratefully, speak English. But They also were kind enough to allow me to practice German without making it a “thing“ (most restaurants I go to quickly switch to English and ignore my attempts to learn)
